A Recipe for You: Soothing Anti-Inflammatory Vanilla & Coconut Body Butter

A Recipe for You: Soothing Anti-Inflammatory Vanilla & Coconut Body Butter

This recipe is made with natural butters and oils that are very soothing on their own, but we’re adding essential oils to take the healing effects up a notch! Your ingredients are:
  • 1 oz (28 g) beeswax (Cera alba)
  • 1 oz  (28 g) coconut oil (Cocos nucifera)
  • 1 oz (28 g) kpangnan butter (Pentadesma butyracea)
  • 3 oz  (84 g) vanilla infused jojoba oil (Simmondsia chinensis)
  • 25 drops (1 ml) Opopanax essential oil (Commiphora guidotti)
  • 50 drops (2 ml) Balsam Poplar essential oil (Populus balsamifera)
  • 25 drops (1 ml) Frankincense essential oil (Boswellia carterii)

You’ll also need three 2 oz (60 ml) glass jars. (And you might want a 1 oz/30 ml jar around in case you wind up with a little extra!)

We’ll be melting these on the stove, so you’ll need a “double boiler”—just put a soup pot on the stove filled about ¼ with water, and simmer. Then put a Pyrex measuring cup in the pot with the handle hanging over the side (it doesn’t get so hot that way).

Directions:
  1. First, add the beeswax to the Pyrex measuring cup, and melt.
  2. Add the coconut oil.
  3. Add the kpangnan butter, and melt.
  4. Add the vanilla jojoba (you can use plain jojoba if you don't have vanilla).
Remove the melted blend from heat, and add the essential oils. Stir gently with a glass stir stick or the end of a stainless steel spoon.

Pour the blend into the glass jars, and tighten the lids gently on top so the essential oils don’t evaporate while the blends cool. I try not to move the glass jars until the liquid is solid. That way the top looks smooth and perfect when you open it.

Never made a body butter? You can watch me go through the process in this video. (I’m using some different ingredients in the video, but the process is the same.)
