: Remove Bathroom Mold Naturally

If any natural cleaning agent can remove mold, that would have to be Tea Tree essential oil. Tea Tree is a powerful antifungal.

It also promotes health and immunity. So when you’re cleaning, you don’t have to worry about toxic chemicals. You’re actually getting healthier along with your home!

We use this Tea Tree mold remover in our bathroom every week. It’s also good at preventing mold from ever setting in (which I’d rather do than try to remove it). We don’t even need gloves to use it!

Bye Bye Bathroom Mold

Ingredients:
  • ½ cup borax (a natural mineral salt)
  • ½ cup vinegar
  • 30 drops Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia)
Directions:
Combine all your ingredients in a plastic container with a lid. (You can even use your hands to mix it up!) The consistency should be paste-like. Just apply a bit to the mold, then scrub it off and rinse with water.

For extra cleaning, you can spray the area with hydrogen peroxide after you apply the mixture, or let the mixture sit on the mold for about an hour before scrubbing it off.

If any natural method will work against mold, this is the one! It may not solve all your mold problems, but it’s worth a shot. You can also try a variation on this recipe with different essential oils, which you’ll find here.

Using Essential oils for bathing

Using essential oils in a bath is so simple and luxurious.

I think that’s probably why this is one of the more popular ways people use essential oils.
Adding essential oils to a bath is great for your skin. You also inhale the oils—the warm bath water helps them evaporate more quickly. So relaxing!
We talk about how to use essential oils in a bath in Aromahead’s free online class, the Introduction to Essential Oils. There’s a lot more to it than just dropping essential oils in your bath water! (We also talk about other methods of use, such as aromatherapy inhalers and lip balms, and how to make blends for yourself and friends.)
It’s not always a good idea to just drop essential oils directly into your bath water. First of all . . . oil and water don’t mix! So your essential oils won’t disperse well. Second, the oils won’t float in the middle of the tub, but will be drawn to the lipids in your skin. This means they’ll be touching your skin undiluted. Combined with hot water, this can potentially cause irritation.
So a safe, effective way to use essential oils in a bath is to mix them with salts or a fatty substance, such as milk or a carrier oil (sesame oil is wonderful if you like the aroma!). The salts, milk, or carrier oil protect your skin, and help the essential oils disperse through the bath water.

Here are three popular ways to add essential oils to a bath:

  1. Add 5 drops of essential oil to a tablespoon (15 ml) of carrier oil, and then add this to your bath water.
  2. Add 5 drops of essential oil to a cup of whole milk and pour it into your bath. The oils will bond with the fats in the milk. When the milk disperses through the water and touches your skin, so do the essential oils. In this case, the milk creates a protective layer that prevents skin irritation. (Side note: Using milk is easier to clean up than using a carrier oil!)
  3. Blend 5 drops of essential oil into 1 oz (28 gm) of bath salts. I like to use pink Himalayan salts, but you can use any natural salts that you like. All you have to do is drop your essential oils right into the salts and stir. Using bath salts means you’re also filling your bath with skin-nourishing nutrients and minerals in the salt.

What essential oils in a bath are the most relaxing and skin loving?

Some oils I love to add to my baths are:
  • Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)
  • Roman Chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile)
  • Vetiver (Vetiveria zizanoides)
  • Frankincense (Boswellia carterii)
  • Myrrh (Commiphora myrrha)
Take care of your skin: Peppermint (Mentha x piperita) and the spice oils, like Ginger (Zingiber officinale) or Black Pepper (Piper nigrum) are no-no’s. They can be too irritating to bathe with.
Also, when it comes to the rich florals, like Rose (Rose damascena), Ylang Ylang (Cananga odorata), and Geranium (Pelargonium roseum x asperum), only use a drop or two. They are beautiful but can become overpowering very quickly.

LOVE OILS

Sensuality is essential to feeling good and a great way to connect with your partner. There are many ways to spice things up in a relationship, but an easy and delicious way is by using essential oils.  Using aphrodisiac oils in aromatherapy can enhance pleasure, and lend an erotic feeling to help boost your sexual energy. The beauty is that you can create luscious and tempting blends that tease the senses by using a few oils to create a sumptuous potion. You don’t have to be a perfumer to make your own blends for a night of sensual magic. Simply buy a few essential oils and mix into some sweet almond oil for a nice massage oil or perfume oil—then just pour into a glass jar to preserve it. You can even make a bewitching room spray by pouring a few drops into a spray bottle. Creating a love lair can be easy with candles, aromatherapy and some soft music. Soothe an uptight lover who is worried about work or other matters by simply being a temptress.
All you have to do is create a warm, relaxing atmosphere that seems to ignite sensuality. Here are some wonderful oils to mix together for a sweet and seductive evening that you use as a room spray, in the bath or a massage oil.

To unwind and truly relax you can breathe in the deep intoxicating scent of Ylang Ylang. This is a heady, sweet and erotic fragrance that stimulates feminine sensuality, euphoria and erotic moods. It is wonderful for helping the body to relax, great for reducing anxiety and for frigidity. Ylang Ylang helps you to unwind and open yourself up to sensual pleasures. It is a wonderful aphrodisiac. Orange essential oil is another favorite to help remove inhibitions and is an uplifting oil that lifts the mood and helps to stimulate optimism and playfulness, while creating warmth and pleasure in the body which stimulates sensuality and passion especially when mixed with Ylang Ylang oil. Mixing orange and Ylang Ylang together is a powerful combination for casting that magic spell of sensual and erotic ambiance.
Jasmine is a powerful floral fragrance, which is warm and exotic that deeply influences the emotional part of us. Jasmine is especially great for helping to dissolve away emotional blocks involving relationships and sex. Jasmine helps with reducing psychological tension, frigidity, coldness and fear, which helps bring a sense of euphoria. Under its influence both men and women open up to sensual love. Jasmine helps set the stage for experiencing warm love, trust and relaxes and helps to open the body and emotions.

For men— a few great oils to use are Sandalwood and Cedarwood which are woody and relaxing. Sandalwood is a good choice though as it’s spiritual, grounding and masculine smelling. Other oils which are seductive and considered aphrodisiac oils are clove, vanilla, cinnamon and ginger oils. Think cooking spices and how they smell when using them. Now imagine the scent of those spices in an oil—they are even more potent in creating a warm, luscious atmosphere that literally seduces your senses. Something interesting is that the smell of cinnamon can increase blood flow to the penis and can enhance sexual response and reduce stress—great for men suffering from low libido. Cinnamon stimulates, energizes and warms, reduces stress, lifts mood and warms and relaxes tight muscles. It’s great t to mix cinnamon and lavender together as men find this really arousing and sexual.

Here are a few sensual blends you can make yourself. Remember you can use oils in a room spray, bath or in a massage oil. You can buy the essential oils at most health food stores and you can usually find glass jars or bottles there. You can also buy carrier oils there. A carrier oil is used to mix essential oils into to dilute them a bit. A good oil to add essential oils into is sweet almond oil or jojoba. Never use oils without diluting into a carrier oil on your skin to be safe. You don’t have to dilute when putting in a bath or room spray, but if making a perfume or massage oil it’s best to dilute for skin safety.
Seductive Oil (this oil is a bit more feminine and floral)
8 drops Sandalwood essential oil
3 drops Orange essential oil
1 drop Ylang Ylang essential oil (no more than two drops it is very potent)
2 drops Jasmine essential oil
Pour the drops of essential oil into 1/4 cup (60ml) carrier oil such as sweet almond oil, apricot kernel oil or jojoba oil

Alluring Oil (this oil is a bit more masculine and spicy)

8 drops Sandalwood oil

3 drops Clove essential oil

2 drops Ginger oil

2 drops of Cinnamon

3 drops Vanilla

Experiment and see what your lover likes scent wise. Have fun and play with different scents, new blends and see what an erotic massage with sensual essential oils can do to boost your sexual side. Get ready for a seductive fun.

Natural Home Remedy Tooth Paste

Here some fab ideas for healthy teeth from Aromahead
Put one drop of Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) on your toothbrush after brushing your teeth at night. Tea Tree is antimicrobial and will work hard to keep your toothbrush clean by reducing microbes.
  1. Use Helichrysum hydrosol for your mouthwash. After I brush my teeth, I add a capful of the hydrosol into a small glass of water and rinse my mouth. If you don’t like the taste of Helichrysum hydrosol, mix it with some Peppermint hydrosol (½ capful of each). That freshens it right up!
  2. Make your own toothpaste. Simply mix ½ coconut oil and ½ baking soda in a glass jar and dab a little of the mix on your toothbrush. For extra freshness, you can add one drop of Peppermint and one drop of Tea Tree essential oil to 1 oz of the coconut/baking soda mix.

Aromatherapy Recipes to Enhance Your Yoga Practice

by Andrea Butje

Owner/Instructor at Aromahead Institute

Yoga and aromatherapy share a common goal–that of naturally, gently, restoring a person’s balance and health. Maybe that’s why they have a long history of working together.
Essential oils affect us quickly, and they affect us deeply. Essential oils can be such powerful tools, especially in conjunction with yoga, as we connect with our bodies in deep, holistic, strengthening ways.
Preparing for Your Practice
Some yoga studios don’t allow the use of aromatherapy during yoga classes. Scents can linger in a space after the class is over, and what one person finds soothing, another may find irritating–especially if they have an allergy, or a negative memory associated with the aroma.
But some studios do make use of aromatherapy, and you can use it in your personal practice, too.
To cleanse your space on a broad scale, diffuse essential oils in a diffuser or use a room spray. This is a great way to clear the energy. If you teach a class, this can put your students–and yourself–in a yogic state of mind right when they walk in. Using the right essential oils can even cleanse the air. Anti-microbial oils, like eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus), lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), or the wonderfully bright citruses, actually destroy airborne germs when they’re diffused or sprayed throughout the space. This can be really helpful for preventing the spread of infection during cold and flu season.
If you’re running a studio, it’s also a good idea to use aromatherapy and essential oils in the bathroom. They cut through funky smells, and keep the space neat and clean without resorting to toxic chemicals. Lemon (Citrus limon), Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) and Juniper Berry (Juniperus communis) are a few essential oils that can really disinfect surfaces and make a room smell amazing.
Here are 2 great recipes you can spray in the room both before and after your session:
Calm and Clean10 drops Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)
10 drops Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia)
1 oz. of water in spray bottle
Uplift and Clean5 drops Orange (Citrus sinensis)
5 drops Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis ct. camphor)
5 drops  Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)
1 oz. of water in spray bottle
A popular time to use aromatherapy is when you’re closing your practice, during shavasana. You can spray a blend around your mat before you lay back to relax.
This is a great way to close your practice. The feel and scent of the oils lingers on your skin, helping you maintain that yogic glow as you go back into the world.
Here’s a great recipe to try as you close your session:
Yogic Glow5 drops Black Spruce (Picea mariana)
5 drops Mandarin (Citrus reticulata)
10 drops Frankincense (Boswellia carterii)
1 oz. of water in spray bottle
